THE SAUGATUCK COSMOLOGY
With these photographs of the Saugatuck River, I came to see the flowing waters as a democratic life force that nurtured all forms of life throughout geological and historic times. The serene now protected open space and a river constrained by dams and reservoirs hold remembrances of free-flowing waters. I began to explore my perceptions of the vibrant yet peaceful beauty of the cascading falls, the play of light, and the rendering of time in the moment and the millennium. And so, this body of work looks to the intersection of time and light and water to ask difficult questions and possibly find some deeper understanding of the more-than-human world.
The project evolved into the making of a book, The Saugatuck Cosmology, in collaboration with the author Ted Wade. The web version can be viewed here and print copies are available from the authors.
